Planning application submitted to redevelop the Twisted Wheel Club
An update on the plans to demolish… sorry redevelop… the legendary Twisted Wheel Club.
Manchester Council have posted on their website the planning application by Motel One, a German firm who want to demolish the building which currently houses the Twisted Wheel club in the basement to build a hotel.
Regular readers of the blog/followers of Music Heritage UK will know that we have landed our support to the grassroots campaign to save the venue which was the birthplace of Northern Soul. The club continues to this day with a twice monthly northern soul club night at the venue.
The Council has put the planning application out for comment - now is the time to write in and let them know what a mistake they are making! A decision on the future of the Twisted Wheel and this redevelopment is expected on June 28th.
Together we can help save this historic venue from demolition.
What you need to do now!
1. Add a public comment on the Manchester City Council website
2. Compose a formal “letter of objection” to the case officer.
3. Send a letter of objection to the councillors who will make the final decision. Their emails are below.
If you want to find out more, you can read our interview with the current DJ of the Twisted Wheel Pete Roberts. He tells you all you need to know about why this venue needs to be saved!
Keep up to date with the campaign on our dedicated campaign section on our website. This has links to all our media coverage including an interview on BBC Radio Manchester and a piece we wrote on the club for Manchester’s Chimp magazine.
